Rusty Staub’s First Home Run as an Expo
This ball was the first home run hit by all-time Montreal
Expos favorite, Rusty Staub, as an Expo. On the official
National League Warren Giles baseball, Staub (known
as Le Grand Orange) wrote: “Home Run No. 1 as
a Montreal Expo Player. Opening Day New York Mets off
Alvin Jackson April 9, 1969.”
This game was the first ever played by the Expos, and
this home run was the second in the history of the franchise.
(Catcher Dan McGinn hit the first home run one inning
earlier.)
