Political Blog

In May, 2006, I was asked to write some political articles by The Huffington Post. Many of my articles also run in RealClearPolitics.com (RCP), National Review Online (NRO), PoliticalMavens.com and other sites. They are all archived here.

This section is for my political articles (though I throw a “culture” piece in occasionally). Feel free to comment. Whether you agree or disagree, I’ll put your comment up – Just try and keep it somewhat civil.

The article of mine that has been most read is "Why I Left The Left".
After it came out, I got an invitation to The White House.

I write my thoughts and ideas in the Personal section. My favorite quotes from over the years (plus a few I’ve written myself) are in the Quotes section.

Why Should Obama's Poor Choices Surprise Anyone?

Candidate Obama chose to be friends with William Ayres, the unrepentant terrorist. Yet, the Leftist media thought it was more important to "vet" Bristol Palin's boyfriend's family.

Candidate Obama chose to allow Tony Rezko, now an indicted felon, to loan him $300,000 to help him buy his big home. The press and Democrat voters thought John McCain's seven homes -- bought without the hint of graft -- was a more important story.

Citizen and candidate Obama chose to remain in Reverend Wright's church whose diatribes against America are now famous. The media and Democrats thought it was more important to demonize President Bush who kept America safe from terror attacks for 7 ½ years.

Senator Obama voted against the Surge. In light of the Surge's obvious success, did the media call candidate Obama's judgment into question? No.

So, why is anyone surprised that a number of Obama's choices for high level governmental posts are ethically-challenged, like Tom Daschle, Tim Geithner, Nancy Killefer and Bill Richardson?

Caught up in their blood lust for President Bush, Democrats chose to deny the reality of who Mr. Obama truly was: A stunningly inexperienced Chicago-bred politician who had made poor choices, in his associations and judgments.

In politics, as in life, you get what you pay for.

His choices have not been surprising.

It was becoming increasingly clear, as we learned who he really was over the last couple of years, that while the press focused on his charisma, they were ignoring the important character flaws.

His duplicity in his rhetoric did not match his record.

The media downplayed or rationalized his radical positions, yet, so far he has wasted little time in implementing them.

While three of his major nominees are now history, three that were confirmed look equally bad.

Giethner is a joke in his own Treasury department.
The tax cheat charged with enforcing the tax collection system!

Holder as Attorney General, a man who was instrumental in pardoning criminals with political friends, and terrorists for graft!

Hillary "the rotten" Clinton involved in scandal after scandal and beholden to the countries she must confront to represent our interests!

We have had weak presidents before, but this is the first that gave me the feeling he was lying when he swore to uphold the Constitution.

This man is still a stranger, even among his supporters, and though I think we know what he wants to do (impose government control wherever he can and funnel money to his support networks in the name of helping people- but really for his own ulterior motives) we have no real feeling on what he is capable of doing in a pressing crisis.

Our countries strength gives us a buffer of sorts, but in an age of instantaneous world-wide technology and rouge nations threats of using WMD preemptively to destroy foes, we cannot feel too secure.

History shows how minor incidents can escalate quickly into major crisis and the president-in-training relies on an Ivy League professors socialistic views of world reality.

This all leaves one wondering if Obama is the epitome of the Peter Principle, or even if his loyalty is truly to this country at all!

We are only entering week three and already India has warned us,Iran has warned us ,the Eu has warned us, Russia has warned us, and Al-queda has warned us, all for their various reasons.

He has weakened our war on terror with some stubborn moves aimed at constituents rather than protecting the country, and he has attacked some public American celebrities but he sure hasn't done anything dazzling or great.

Oh yea, his least popular move of all his culture of death on the "non-entities" carried in wombs!
Catholics who voted for him overwhelmingly are now feeling duped!

The war on fetuses is of utmost importance, while KSM in gitmo laughs in our faces!

How 75% of Jews could vote for Israels destruction is beyond me, and he will be no friend of theirs and hasten their demise.

To sum it all up our enemies are laughing, the press is still stoned, his own party is cringing and the normal Americans and freedom loving people the world over are holding on, waiting for the other shoe to drop, and all hell to break loose!

Hi,Lib. I'm guessing, although I don't know, that you are not Jewish. Doesn't mean you can't speak about issues that concern Jews, of course. However, to say that voting for Obama was voting for the "destruction of Israel" is preposterous. Like Trotsky, I am Jewish. However, I am not sanguine about a theocratic state that brutally discriminates against a large portion of its population in the name of some kind of "divine right" to the land.

So I guess you and Seth see clearly while everyone else (except the folks at Fox and Rush Limbaugh) are deluded.

Actually, Obama really can't do much to fix the messes that he has been bequeathed. It would require changing the system and that, he is not about to do. You right wing guys are just soooo pissed off that he is popular, and able to string a couple of sentences together coherently without a teleprompter and without wetting himself (unlike W.).

The idea that Obama is more corrupt, bankrupt, beholden to special interests, etc., than W. is preposterous -- and you guys must know that on some level.

"However, to say that voting for Obama was voting for the "destruction of Israel" is preposterous."

Liberalism is much more of a cult than an ideology that, unfortunately, many American Jews are in. It's hard to de-program them because they have "drunk the Kool-Aid" from their Leftist teachers since kindergarten. Disturbingly, their loyalties are more to the cult of liberalism than to the survival of Judaism.

Generally, these people don't like themselves very much (the political correctness of liberalism beats the humanness out of you). People in cults generally don't like themselves and need something "greater" to give their life meaning. A few years ago, the cause de jour was "saving the world" from global warming. That fad has faded and will continue to do so because another new fad has trumped it: The Fad of Obama.

"Like Trotsky, I am Jewish. However, I am not sanguine about a theocratic state that brutally discriminates against a large portion of its population"

Mmm...Do you know who were the only Arabs to vote before George W. Bush freed 25 million Iraqis? Israeli Arabs. Yeah. That was all while Saddam Hussein BRUTALLY tortured Iraqis. I don't need to go through the BRUTALITIES that incurred on Arabs by their own leaders, but I find it disgusting that you DO NOT KNOW what brutality even is. You've gone down three notches today. Just despicable to characterize Israel this way. You should be ashamed, but you won't be because you've become addicted to the Left's Kool-Aid.

"in the name of some kind of "divine right" to the land."'

It's Israel's land. It was never "Arab" land. The very worst thing a person can be in my book is a Jewish anti-Semite. It dishonors, to the highest extent, the 6 million Jews who were murdered in the Holocaust. Dis-gusting!

"So I guess you and Seth see clearly while everyone else (except the folks at Fox and Rush Limbaugh) are deluded."

47% of the electorate also SEE clearly. The deeply delusional Left's candidate is performing worse than any other new president in American history. American history. Let's be clear about this: Obama is a disaster the likes of which we may never see again. He's like Sanjaya Malakar -- the un-talented American Idol contestant from a few years ago. He couldn't sing, but he won every week until everyone realized that "that guy can't sing" and it was a nasty fall for him. That's starting to happen to the empty suit that is Obama and it's going to destroy far-Leftism forever. Mark my words.

"Actually, Obama really can't do much to fix the messes that he has been bequeathed."

Like keeping us safe for 7 1/2 years? That "mess" that Bush got us into? Or do you mean WINNING Iraq and seeing Iraqis vote, freely, again. That mess? The economic "mess" was the making of the politically correct Democrats who demanded that minorities get mortgages on houses that they couldn't afford!

"You right wing guys are just soooo pissed off that he is popular,"

Not. See, we think substance means more than style. The fall of Obama, because of his stunning lack of substance of experience, is going to be staggering. Then, the public will never, ever, ever vote in a "hope" and "change" Leftist again.

"and able to string a couple of sentences together coherently"

That's all you got, huh? Obama "speaks" better than Bush? Pathetic. Give me a guy who stutters, but keeps us safe and frees millions of others and I'll take him over an eloquent empty suit.

"without a teleprompter"

Um, it's Obama who doesn't speak well without a teleprompter or hadn't you heard?

"The idea that Obama is more corrupt, bankrupt, beholden to special interests, etc., than W. is preposterous"

Did Bush take $300K from a "fixer" like the indicted felon, Rezko, to buy his home? Did Bush befriend William Ayres, the terrorist? Did Bush belong to a Nazi-like Church for 20 years?

Your continued blood lust for Bush just ain't cutting it. The spotlight is on Obama and it's not flattering!

***I'm guessing, although I don't know, that you are not Jewish.
No, I am not,(though my name and circumcision status might provide cover, LOL) however, I have never understood the anti-Semitic attitude one iota.
Judaism is just like any other religion, the members run the gambit from Orthodox, to non-practicing. Members are good and bad, tall and short, old and young, rich and poor, educated and not. To hate them- or love them, as a group is non-nonsensical.

***"You right wing guys are just soooo pissed off that he is popular,"

Not true in my case at all. I am worried not angry.
His popularity though is dropping fast, by the way.

***"Actually, Obama really can't do much to fix the messes that he has been bequeathed."

This is exactly the type of problem that you socialists dream of, as it provides the excuse to implement the changes you wish to effect, changes that the people do not normally accept.
They do not seem to be accepting them now either!

As a proud and unapologetic liberal, though no left-wing extremist,I find your comments about the allegedly poor choices of Obama to be the sheerest hypocrisy.
And George W Buch's choices were better, free from scandal and paragons of virtue? What a laugh ! Bush basically chose cronies for important posts, not people with REAL qualifications. No wonder his presidency was such a catastrophe for this country and the world.
I'm not sayingt that Obama and his cabinet choices are perfect, but they're certainly a vast improvement over the previous administration.

As a proud and unapologetic liberal, though anything but a left-wing extremist, I find your claims the height of hypocrisy. Bush's choices for key posts were better? Come on. His choices were based on cronyism and not REAL qualifications. And they were guilty of rampant corruption, too. No wonder the previous administration was such a disaster for America and the world.
Obama's choices may not be perfect, but they're infinitely preferable to the previous administration. Enough demonization of Obama.Give the poor man a chance to do his job.

"As a proud and unapologetic liberal,"

That's the first problem...

"though no left-wing extremist"

We'll see...

"George W Buch's choices were better, free from scandal and paragons of virtue?"

Yes. General Powell, Cheney, Rice, Paulson, Rumsfeld -- any 'virtue' or 'scandal' problems there?

"What a laugh ! Bush basically chose cronies..."

"Cronies"? I thought you said you weren't a "left wing extremist?"

"Didn't you for important posts, not people with REAL qualifications."

You don't want me to list the above-mentioned peoples' qualifications, do you? We'd be here all day. I know one thing: All of Bush's choices for cabinet posts have more experience than Obama!

"No wonder his presidency was such a catastrophe for this country and the world."

Let's see, America hasn't had another "9/11," since, well, 9/11. That's going on 8 years. Is that a "catastrophe" for America? No need to answer.

Iraq's people just went to the polls -- AGAIN -- to vote freely, in multi-party elections. That's a "catastrophe"?

Bush Derangement Syndrome CAN be cured, though it takes a real commitment.

"I'm not saying tthat Obama and his cabinet choices are perfect"

No, they are tax cheats. They expect others to pay, but not themselves. Can you say "liberal elitism"? They are terrible choices that reflect the poor judgment and "whatever" attitude of your Prophet (Obama) himself.

"but they're certainly a vast improvement over the previous administration."

Yes, if you don't like being safe from terrorists. Small stuff like that!

"As a proud and unapologetic liberal, though no left-wing extremist,I find your comments about the allegedly poor choices of Obama to be the sheerest hypocrisy."

I see liberals who are ignorant and are only Democrats because the family has "always been", or left-wing extremists who usually have one burning issue and a selfish reason for deciding they are liberals.

The left has become decidedly anti-American from A-Z on the issues.

You should read about just how wonderful they are at this site and than decide if you are proud to be a liberal!

This section of DiscoverTheNetworks examines Barack Obama's connections to a number of key individuals and organizations. In some cases, these affiliates are notable for the leftist views and objectives they share with Obama. In other cases, they are notable for their collaboration with Obama in controversial or unethical activities. In all cases, they offer a window into Barack Obama's values and priorities. Taken as a whole, they verify Thomas Sowell's observation that Obama has "spent decades aiding and abetting people who hate America."
