Political Blog

In May, 2006, I was asked to write some political articles by The Huffington Post. Many of my articles also run in RealClearPolitics.com (RCP), National Review Online (NRO), PoliticalMavens.com and other sites. They are all archived here.

This section is for my political articles (though I throw a “culture” piece in occasionally). Feel free to comment. Whether you agree or disagree, I’ll put your comment up – Just try and keep it somewhat civil.

The article of mine that has been most read is "Why I Left The Left".
After it came out, I got an invitation to The White House.

I write my thoughts and ideas in the Personal section. My favorite quotes from over the years (plus a few I’ve written myself) are in the Quotes section.

Obama's Cynical Trip to Buchenwald

I know a guy who worked very hard on the Obama campaign.

His father is a Holocaust survivor. He was deeply disturbed by the President's speech in Cairo and also felt that the Buchenwald trip was purely political, which it was.

What made him feel a bit better was that Elie Wiesel (the Holocaust survivor) went with Obama and spoke at the memorial. I, then, reminded him that Elie Wiesel, with all sincere respect, is not the best judge of character, recently having lost all his money to Bernard Madoff, the "Obama" of the investing world.

I suppose it would have been better to go to a graveyard where SS members were buried and pay tribute, like Ronald Regan did. That's the way to respect holocaust survivors and uphold conservative values! That and murdering abortion providers-- God Bless America!

What Reagan did was highly wrong as well, but the thing to remember about Obama is that he is purely political. This was a cynical trip -- show the Jews that we care -- from a guy who equates six million being marched to their deaths to Palestinian suffering, which a) isn't systematic mass murder and b) they brought on themselves and continue to.

A disgusting comparison made by our morally obscene president.

Bill Clinton should be reinstated as our first black president. Obama should be thought of as our first celebrity president. Says allot about us, that as a nation, we were willing to elect a man for his ellocution and personal story- not his philosophy or ability to understand that we are all neighbors in the world, but he is President of the United States. Only the United States.

Lydia, are you forgetting Ronald Regan? A fair actor with a couple of very good movies to his credit (e.g., Kings Row) and numerous bad ones.

As for this ado about things being "political" what is the problem with that? I thought that Obama was a "politician." When did Obama equate the suffering of the Palestinians to the holocaust? Do you have the quote? And you dismiss Elie Wiesel because he lost money with Madoff? What a putz you are! As for the suffering of the palestinians, it is real and very significant -- but you just dehumanize them and decide they deserve whatever they get, including famine, disease and death.

Oh, I think Sarah Palin quitting her post as governor is too bad. She is just so much fun! I love it. "I could take the easy way out and stay at my job, but I'm doing the courageous thing and quitting." (!!!) You really cannot make this stuff up. And the far right in this country laps it up. Talk about compromised intellects.

Hope you and your family are OK, seth. Things seem pretty quiet on your website.

Toodles.

"When did Obama equate the suffering of the Palestinians to the holocaust?... Do you have the quote?"

Cairo speech, June 9, 2009:

"Around the world, the Jewish people were persecuted for centuries, and anti-Semitism in Europe culminated in an unprecedented Holocaust. Tomorrow, I will visit Buchenwald, which was part of a network of camps where Jews were enslaved, tortured, shot and gassed to death by the Third Reich. Six million Jews were killed – more than the entire Jewish population of Israel today. Denying that fact is baseless, ignorant, and hateful. Threatening Israel with destruction – or repeating vile stereotypes about Jews – is deeply wrong, and only serves to evoke in the minds of Israelis this most painful of memories while preventing the peace that the people of this region deserve.

On the other hand, it is also undeniable that the Palestinian people – Muslims and Christians – have suffered in pursuit of a homeland. For more than sixty years they have endured the pain of dislocation. Many wait in refugee camps in the West Bank, Gaza, and neighboring lands for a life of peace and security that they have never been able to lead."

ON THE OTHER HAND? AS IF THERE IS ANOTHER WAY OF LOOKING AT THE SLAUGHTER OF SIX MILLION INNOCENT PEOPLE JUST BECAUSE THEY WERE JEWISH?

AND THE FALSEHOOD THAT PALESTINIANS ALSO SUFFER LIKE THE JEWS OF THE HOLOCAUST -- HOW UTTERLY DISGUSTING OF OBAMA TO MAKE THAT CLAIM. PALESTINIANS SUFFER BECAUSE THEY ARE IN A CONSTANT STATE OF WAR AGAINST ISRAEL. THEY STRAP THEIR OWN CHILDREN -- CHILDREN! -- WITH BOMBS TO KILL INNOCENTS.

OBAMA IS THE PROBLEM AND THE MOMENT THAT HE LOSES IN 2012 IS WHEN WE'LL GET MORAL CLARITY AGAIN (if a Republican is elected, of course!).

"And you dismiss Elie Wiesel because he lost money with Madoff?"

No, I dismiss him because his ill-placed trust in Obama is understandable considering his ill-placed trust in Madoff. In both cases, Wiesel wanted to believe something and he paid the price with Madoff: Jews will pay the price if they don't rail against everything that Obama demands from them. Everything. He is anti-Israel, but Leftist. American Jews can't shake their Leftism and they made an egregious error in giving Obama their vote. Twenty years in that sewer of a "church" listening to that anti-Semite Wright. Farrakhan was named Man of the Year of that church in 2007. Yet, Jews still voted for Obama. Oprah left that church because she didn't like what she heard. Clearly, Obama liked it and is now trying to implement it.

"What a putz you are! As for the suffering of the Palestinians, it is real and very significant"

They bring it on themselves. If they stopped killing innocent people, recognized Israel and got their undeserved state, they still wouldn't be satisfied. Why? BECAUSE THEY WANT THE END OF ISRAEL, THEY COULD CARE LESS ABOUT THEIR OWN STATE.

"-- but you just dehumanize them and decide they deserve whatever they get, including famine, disease and death."

THEY dehumanize life: they kill. They deserve whatever they get. I have sympathy for the innocents who are killed or maimed: not the ones doing the killing or maiming. That's where you and I differ.

"Oh, I think Sarah Palin quitting her post as governor is too bad."

I don't.

"She is just so much fun! I love it."

What's more FUN is how afraid the Left is of her: She was the VP nominee on a failed presidential ticket and the Huffington Post and other Lefty media outlets continue to go after her. Why? Because they are deathly afraid of her. Still. It's a mark of her strength as a candidate. If she becomes president, the depression that will occur on the Left will be so delectable to witness: popcorn every day with real butter watching MSNBC is where you'll find me!

"And the far right in this country laps it up."

Not just the far Right. Much more like the Right.

"Talk about compromised intellects."

Oh please, you guys, in your elitism, think that you have the copyright on "smart." You read "The Times," of course. Everyone on the Right is "dumb". I was on the Left for a long time and I can tell you that the Left is made up of mostly not smart people. The Right is made up of mostly common sense people.

Seth, Obama does not equate the plight of the Palestinians with the holocaust. Your reading of the quote assumes he is some kind of rabid anti-semite. And just because some of the Palestinians might dehumanize Israelis and Jews, doesn't mean that you don't return the favor. If I'm not mistaken, you believe that palestinian civilians and children that are killed are fair game?

And most Palestinians, as far as I can tell, really do want their own state.

No, I love Palin -- She's amazing. No fear, really. If she were a serious candidate for President, I would be moderately horrified, but that doesn't seem very likely. But who knows? Lenin gave a talk to some young Russian socialists in the spring of 1916 stating that he would not live to see the revolution in Russia, but they would. Sometimes things are very hard to predict.

And your positions do sound really stupid Seth. You've bought into a political culture of know-nothingism. Look in the mirror to see the actual nihilism that you upbraid the "left" for. And stop calling Obama and the stinking Democratic party leftists for gosh sakes!

"Seth, Obama does not equate the plight of the Palestinians with the holocaust."

Re-read the quote. Yes, he does. It's clear.

"Your reading of the quote assumes he is some kind of rabid anti-semite."

Like Reverend Wright, yes. Obama listened and learned. Rahm and Axelrod, the self-hating Jews, are his cover.

"And just because some of the Palestinians might dehumanize Israelis and Jews, doesn't mean that you don't return the favor. "

Sorry: actions have consequences.

"If I'm not mistaken, you believe that palestinian civilians and children that are killed are fair game?"

Hamas does, which is why they hide behind woman and children and in hospitals. Cowards.

"And most Palestinians, as far as I can tell, really do want their own state."

They could have had it twice. Not so sure that a third time is coming. They certainly do not deserve a state.

"And your positions do sound really stupid Seth. You've bought into a political culture of know-nothingism. Look in the mirror to see the actual nihilism that you upbraid the "left" for. And stop calling Obama and the stinking Democratic party leftists for gosh sakes!"

OK, instead of "Leftists," I'll call them Marxists as they are who they are and how they are BEHAVING.

Posted by: seth at July 28, 2009 3:06 PM

Read and understand some Marx before you sully his name by calling Obama and his ilk "Marxists." To you this is merely an epithet, with little or no meaning. That's what I mean by Know-nothingism. Lazy at best, but probably laziness suffused with mendacity. Marxist/Leftist = someone Seth does not agree with.

Posted by: Lev Bronstein at July 29, 2009 8:33 AM

IT LIVVVVEESS!!!

Seth certainly seems alive, well and as irrational as ever...

As for Palin, I'd love to see her give a shot for the top of the ticket in '12. Judging by the incoherentness of her exit speech, it would be REAL interesting to say the least. I imagine she had to quit on the Alaskans because she had to brush up on the Bush Doctrine.

The alliance of the far-right and zionists is really bizarre. The "conservatives" are generally pretty anti-semitic; far more than the left. I guess they just want to be sure that the "holy land" is not being controlled by the moors.

Being a great neck liberal does not make you a leftist. You couldn't have "left the left" because you were never a part of it. Voting for a centrist democrat just doesn't cut it. By your definition, most people in this country (and just about everybody in europe) is a leftist.

Posted by: Lev Bronstein at July 29, 2009 11:06 AM

"Read and understand some Marx before you sully his name by calling Obama and his ilk "Marxists."'

First, you answer me this: "How many humans have been murdered under the name of "Marxism"?". Next question --

"Marxist/Leftist = someone Seth does not agree with."

As long as it's not "capitalist" -- the only system known to work, I don't care what you call it. It's bad for humanity. But, being on the Left, you have no use for facts -- they only get in the way of your vision of a perfect world, where there's no religion or war, nothing to fight for. That Utopian vision worked in the 1960s, when 'great minds' like Timothy Leary and others were soaked in LSD. But, it's been proven false countless times. The next one to try it will be Obama and Americans will reject it.

"As for Palin, I'd love to see her give a shot for the top of the ticket in '12. Judging by the incoherentness of her exit speech"

I've honestly never seen the Left so frightened of someone, not even Reagan. It warms the heart watching her in the news each and every day. She's a phenomenon and you haven't found a way to kill her off, though try you might. Damn those STUPID middle of the country Americans!

For the record, I love her, whether she runs in 2012 or not, because she loves America and makes no apologies about it, unlike the morally obscene president we have now.

"The alliance of the far-right and zionists is really bizarre. The "conservatives" are generally pretty anti-semitic.

Patently false.

"far more than the left."

Patently false. The Right appreciates that Israel is us -- free and democratic, albeit with their own parliamentarian system.

"I guess they just want to be sure that the "holy land" is not being controlled by the moors."

It's Israel's historic land. End of story.

"Being a great neck liberal does not make you a leftist."

As Billy Joel said "next phase, new wave, dance craze, anyways, it's still rock and roll to me." Call it what you want, a Lefty is a Lefty is a Lefty. I was indoctrinated as one, taught to hate Republicans, taught to hate Reagan, taught to believe Anita Hill, taught to vote for Dinkins because he was a 'racial healer' instead of the 'Nazi' Giulliani, etc. Don't tell me what a Lefty is, I grew up amongst them. They are not thinking people; they are not particularly caring or compassionate people. They are heavy narcissists that are interested in one thing only "POWER."

"most people in this country (and just about everybody in europe) is a leftist."

Maybe it's why I don't like most Europeans and have very little respect for American Leftists.

Palin killed herself off by quitting. The left is FAR from being afraid of her. They will welcome her to ANY public platform ANY time. When she opens her mouth a small part of the right applaud and the rest cringe while the left laughs out loud.

I say put her up at the top of the ticket and find some birther as VP and the right will have an instant freak show. Throw Glenn Beck in there as press liason to do a little ranting and then bawling, add Bobby Jindal to the mix to talk down to everyone like they're a bunch of toddlers...all I can say is--in the words of your fearless leader--"BRING'EM ON!!"
